Prisma Records set to launch two releases!

Prisma Records is a new record label dedicated to releasing music performed and recorded at the Henie Onstad Art Centre located at Høvikodden, Norway. The label focuses on new recordings from the centre`s concert and performance program, entitled Høvikodden Live. It will also release older recordings from the centre's extensive music archive, consisting of 600 concerts from 1968 until 1990. The label is run by the centre`s two music-coordinators Lars Mørch Finborud and Lasse Marhaug -with kind permission by the centre.

On the November 30th Prisma Records will release 2 albums by Kåre Kolberg and Ingar Zach/Andreas Meland as digipak CDs and digital versions on Itunes and Spotify.

Tirsdag 19. november kl 18.00 åpner Henie Onstad Kunstsenters nye mediatek. Her presenteres foto- lyd- og videodokumentasjon av kunstsenterets utstillinger og arrangementer fra 1968 og frem til i dag.

Fra åpningen i 1968 har Henie Onstad Kunstsenter dokumentert egne utstillinger og arrangementer innen ”flyktige” kunstarter som musikk, performace, dans og teater. Alt fra profesjonelle fotografer, filmteam og lydteknikere til entusiastiske amatørgrupper knyttet til senteret, har skapt et levende arkiv. Dette har vokst seg til å bli en av Europas viktigste samlinger av nasjonal og internasjonal musikk- og kunsthistorie. I Henie Onstad Kunstsenters mediatek gjøres dette materialet for første gang tilgjengelig for publikum.

Mediateket består av tre arbeidsstasjoner hvor publikum kan se fotografier fra over 100 utstillinger; lyd, foto og videoklipp fra over 60 konserter, performances og kunstnerintervjuer. Her finnes for eksempel opptak av norske kunstnere som Kjartan Slettemark, Arne Nordheim, Per Inge Bjørlo og Jan Garbarek, og internasjonale storheter som John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Joseph Beuys, Henry Moore og Soft Machine. I tillegg finnes en egen seksjon tilegnet senterets donatorer Sonja Henie og Niels Onstad og en leseseksjon med et utvalg av senterets publikasjoner gjennom 40 år.

Opprettelsen av mediateket er sjenerøst støttet av Henie Onstad Kunstsenters Venneforening. Digitaliseringen av kunstsenterets lydarkiv er støttet av Norsk Kulturråd.

HØVIK BALLETT feirer 40-års jubileum på Henie Onstad Kunstsenter

Høvik Ballett ble startet i 1969 som den første frie gruppe i Norge. De frie gruppene var en svært viktig del av scenekunstfeltet på 70- og 80-tallet.

Når Høvik Ballett nå markerer 40 års-jubileet sitt på Høvikodden, er det fordi Kunstsentret var gruppens base og faste arbeidssted gjennom det meste av de 20 årene gruppen besto. Høvik Ballett fikk viktige impulser på Kunstsentret gjennom de skiftende utstillingene og nøt godt av at ledelsen helt fra begynnelsen lot gruppen gjøre forestillinger og improvisasjoner i samspill med billedkunst og skulpturer.

40 år etter at Høvik Ballett tok sats blir det altså en liten ”gjenoppstandelse” på Høvikodden denne helgen. Det blir urpremiere på et nytt verk: Boks for boks, som bare vises disse to dagene, lørdag og søndag kl. 14.

Merete Bergersen har koreografert forestillingen og samarbeidet med musikeren Jon Christensen,som er med på scenen og spiller trommer og perkusjons- instrumenter. - Tre av danserne i forestillingen var en del av Høvik Ballett i en årrekke, nemlig Anne Brit Kjelsrud, Ina Guro Moen og Tone Westad. Merete Bergersen var Høvik Balletts faste koreograf, og disse fire har et langt og fortrolig samarbeid bak seg. Schirin Zorriassateiny, den fjerde danseren i forestillingen, har bl.a. arbeidet med koreografen i Haiku, en forestilling med gjendiktninger av Paal-Helge Haugen.

Merete Bergersen har også arbeidet med lyrikk i samarbeid med Jan Erik Vold i forestillingen hvitt på hvitt. Hun har også samarbeidet med komponister som Jan Garbarek, Terje Rypdal og Rolf Wallin,

Forestillingen vil også romme en direkte overført filmprojisering av danseren Tinna Gretarsdottir, som opptrer samtidig i et av prosjektrommene under Studioscenen, i Vivild Bergersens koreografi.

Publikum får dessuten sjansen til å se noen bilder fra Høvik Balletts virksomhet denne helgen. Et utvalg fra ulike verk og fra de forskjelligste arenaer, fra Kunstsentrets saler med Giacomettis skulpturer til en skoleforestilling i Henningsvær.

Bildene kan ses i Studio før og etter forestillingene, og de henger bare denne helgen.

Kunstsentrets faste Barneverksted står også i Høvik Balletts tegn på søndag.
Det blir bevegelsesverksted hvor barna får utforske noen av rekvisittene og scenografi-elementene som har vært brukt, særlig i forestillingene Alt er bevegelse og Risj, Rasj og Ramona, som gruppen turnerte mye med i hele Norge.

Verksted for de yngste kl. 1130 – 1230 og for større barn kl. 13 til 14.

Sten Hanson

The Swedish composer, Sten Hanson, was leader of the Fylkingen language group from 1968 and in charge of the Text-Sound Festivals which were held for many years. He is self-taught as a composer. In Sweden, he was chairman of the ISCM (1975-1981), member of the Royal Academy of Music of Sweden and President of the Swedish Composers’ Union (1985-1994), member of the Executive Committee of International Confederation of Electroacoustic Music (ICEM) (1981-1982) and Chairman of this organization from 1997 to 2002. Hanson has been working with experimental music, literature and art since the beginning of the 1960’s, cultivating both instrumental, vocal and electroacoustic music for performance on radio and television, on outdoor occasions or from the concert platform. Text-sound-visual image, often combined with intensely personal ’live” performances, are vital ingredients in Hanson’s work and he is one of the forerunners in the field of multi-media art. His works include electro-acoustic pieces as well as instrumental and vocal compositions. From the end of the sixties up to 1979, he worked essentially with electroacoustic music and created, with Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Åke Hodell, Bengt Emil Johnson, the theory and the practice of a new aesthetic field: ”The electronic text-sound”. Sten Hanson realized a large number of works in various styles : works for television, ballet music, performances, audiovisual performances assisted by computer, pieces for instruments and tape and/or electronics, works for orchestras and computer music. Many of his early compositions were short, hard hitting collages of text and sound with a socially and politically committed content: Che (1968), Western Europe (1969), Revolution (1970). In other works the emphasis was more on humorous burlesque: Coucher et souffler (1968), How are You (1969). Compositions like Fnarp(e) (1970) and L’Inferno de Strindberg (1971) have passed through more extensive electro-acoustic processing, as is also the case in the humorous but cautionary The Flight of the Bumblebee (1982).

Famlende Forsøk

Famlende Forsøk from Arendal/Eydehavn in Norway started up in 1981 and made a name for itself with a long series of cassette releases during the 1980s and the cult record Ars Transmutatoria in 1990 – an album that is often cited as a major source of inspiration for the 1990s generation of Norwegian noise and experimental music. The band consists of the vocalist Brt and the musicians Lumpy Davy and ChrispH. Accompanied by long drawn-out electronic and acoustic sounds, Brt chants his distinctive lyrics in his Arendal dialect, reflecting Burrough’s cut-up literary techniques and sound poetry aesthetics. Following Ars Transmutatoria, Famlende Forsøk (lit.: Fumbling Attempts) spent 16 years completing their project based on the horror writer H.P. Lovecraft One Night I Had A Frightful Dream. The concert at Høvikodden will be their first in the Oslo area for many years.

Jordan Scott Jordan Scott lives in Vancouver BC, Canada. He is the author of Silt (New Star Books 2005) and Blert (Coach House Books 2008). Silt was nominated for the Canadian Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. In the fall of 2006, Jordan worked on the final sections of Blert while acting as a writer in residence at the International Writers’ and Translators’ Centre in Rhodes, Greece. In the spring of 2009 a short film based on Blert appeared on the Bravo! network. He spends the spring and summer slinging canoes at Pitt Lake – the largest freshwater tidal lake in North America.

Pär Thörn Pär Thörn (b. 1977) lives in Malmö. His first works he printed himself. Later OEI (periodical for experimental poetry) and the publishing house Modernista published his works. Studiemannen (Modernista, 2008) is his latest book. In Sweden Pär Thörn has both a reputation of being one of the most talented and inspiring new authors and, at the same time, infamous for writing degenerated conceptual literature. And it’s nothing wrong with either. His work is referential and formalistic. The texts absorb, in an almost encyclopaedian way, formalities from the cultural surroundings of the Swedish social democracy. But they also employ an audio poetic materiality which bare witness of the author’s connection with audio aesthetics. Thörn is a sound artist and reveals Fluxus as one of his main sources for inspiration. The connection between the formalistic and audio poetic turns his texts into subtle reports on everyday existentialism, a quality underlined by his almost laconic way of reading.

Sarah Granskou Ontario native, Sarah Granskou (b. 1973), has grown deep roots and outreaching branches in the traditions of her Norwegian heritage. She has learned to sing in the tongue of her forbears, and to play and carve the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle, applying her Canadian sense of innovation to the Norwegian art of imitation. Sarah Granskou has developed a niche as a contemporary “Canwegian” scald (Nordic bard), applying her Canadian sense of innovation to Norwegian oral tradition. While Sarah draws on ancient art forms, her recitations and lyrics are accessible today and relate often to her own experiences following the Sami reindeer migration, living amongst the Inuit people, working on Norwegian farms, playing for weddings in a Swedish ice church and building 8-string fiddles. Her unique poetic narrative is a humorous and moving context for this northern music. Through combining languages, Sarah creates a comprehensible multicultural dialect. Song, fiddle, willow flute and jaw harp are integral to the narrative and carry the current of her stories along.

tekstopia Oslo international poetry festival and Henie Onstad art centre will this year collaborate with the Internet service tekstopia which is a part of the research project Inventio at Department of Media and Communication at the University of Oslo. tekstopia combines literature to specific sites using location technology like the GPS-service on your mobile phone. With the use of a free down loadable plug in, the GPS will automatically connect with a database containing literature about places in Oslo. The audio texts will automatically be downloaded to your mobile when you are connected to the system, according to where you are at in the city. You can start your stroll in the city centre by listening to a reading of Sigbjørn Obstfelders description of the alienation of the city in his poem «Jeg ser». Proceed to the fortress where you listen to «På Akershus» by Henrik Ibsen. In the botanical garden you can listen to Victoria Kielland read her poem «Botanisk hage; arbore’t n3 (lat. nyd, av arbor ‘tre’) botanisk hage for studium av trær og busker». Proceed to the Tøyen park and listen to an extract from Amtmannens døtre by Camilla Collett. End your stroll at the shopping mall Oslo City while listening to one of the many poems by Simon Stranger. In this way tekstopia gives an unique opportunity to close listening, both to the particular poem and to the voice of the poet at the same time as the listener get a site specific experience. By these means the literature develops both a social and an activating potential through tying itself and the listener to the city. Listening to the literature becomes a multimedia socio-cultural activity. Oslo international poetry festival invites this years poets to contribute to the text universe of tekstopia. During the festival weekend texts attached to the various locations of the festival will be made accessible for the audience to down load on their mobile phones. Main locations for the collaboration will be Høvikodden and the surroundings of the House of literature, where large selection of poetry will be made available. Høvikodden Live 09` presents Merzbow & Void Ov Voices

Merzbow

Masami Akita (born 1956 in Japan) started his Merzbow project in 1979. Inspired by Kurt Schwitters, Vienna Actionism, Dadaism, psychedelia and prog-rock, Akita decided to create a new, sonic expression that broke with all musical norms. His aim was to combine Schwitter’s idea of refuse as artistic material with the most ecstatic highlights of rock music. The result was modern noise music, and Merzbow is currently easily the greatest and best known artist of this genre. Akita is also the most active, with over 300 releases to his name (including Merzbox – a collection of 50 cds), and he shows no sign of slowing the pace. In recent years, Akita, who is a vegan, has spoken out on behalf of animal rights and used his name as the leader of noise music to promote this cause.

VOID OV VOICES

Attila Csihar (born 1971 in Hungary) is already a legend of black metal music. As a vocalist, his unique style of singing combines metal music’s vocal techniques with contemporary music’s extended use of the voice. During the last half of the 1980s, he was the leader of the Hungarian band Tormentor, which is now recognised as the founder of this genre. When the Norwegian black metal scene emerged in the early 90s, Csihar was invited to sing on the now legendary Mayhem record De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Subsequently, Csihar worked with the more experimental band Plasma Pool, before he again joined Mayhem in 2004, after Maniac, the band’s vocalist for 10 years, left. During the last few years, he has also been a vocalist in the drone cult metal band Sunn0))). Voidovvoices is Csihar’s new solo project, in which he concentrates exclusively on voice and samplers.

Jaap Blonk

Jaap Blonk (born 1953 in Holland) is an auto-didactic composer, musician and poet. For over 25 years, he has used his voice as a prime means of discovering and developing new sounds, and his unceasing activity with different projects has won him a reputation as one of leading names and innovators in the field of experimental vocal technique. As a vocal artist, Blonk has made a name for himself due to his strong stage presence and an almost childlike freedom of expression in his improvisations, which he nevertheless subjects to a stringent structural form. In recent years, Blonk has held concerts all over the world and has collaborated with artists such as Maja Ratk je, Mats Gustafsson, Nicolas Collins, Joan La Barbara, The Ex, The Ebony Band, Carola Bauckholt and Golan Levin. Jaap Blonk has also distinguished himself as the leading interpreter of Schwitters’ voice and works of audio poetry. As early as 1986, he released Ursonate on record and more recently he has produced, in collaboration with Golan Levin, the work Ursonography, which is an audiovisual version of Ursonate.

Stine Janvin Motland

The vocalist Stine Janvin Motland (born 1985 in Norway) is from Stavanger and has been active in several different musical genres, but in recent years has built up a particular reputation in the field of improvisational music. As Motland herself puts it: “Body awareness is important; working physically with the music. One example is breathing. You can only hold a note for a certain length of time and I’m curious about what happens when you run out of breath; how does the body react and what the natural reaction is.” Motland performs together with other groups and musicians such as Motsol, Kitchen Orchestra and Frode Gjerstad’s Circulasione Totale Orchestra, but these days increasingly on her own, as on this occasion at the Henie Onstad Art Centre.

ROLLO

ROLLO consists of Tori Wrånes with Simona Barbera (soundscapes), Håvard Skaseth (guitar), Jan Erik Mikalsen (sag), Tara Rolfsen (flute) and Christian Hennie (sculpture).

Tori Wrånes (born 1978) has just completed her master degree at the Oslo Academy of the Arts. Wrånes creates performances/installations combining theatre, visual art and sound, with voice and sculpture as her point of departure. Her works vary in form and are reminiscent of a kind of contemporary tragedy, bordering on comedy. Wrånes’ projects and exhibitions include: Pattedyret (The Mammal), a performance for the 2009 graduate exhibition held at the Stenersen Museum, Zombie Atlantic at Rekord 09, Kullfløyel (Coal Velvet) at the Kunstraum Kreutzberg/Bethanien Gallery in Berlin in November 2008, Hello Glossalolia at The Young Artists’ Association (UKS)/UTKANTEN festival in October 2008, Performance-polaire (Polar Performance) at Palais de la Découverte, Paris in September 2008, Under Himmelrota (Under Skyroot) in connection with Horizons and Fragments, Stavanger Capital of Culture 08, Inni Pattedyret/Tvilende Rovdyr (Into the Mammal/Doubting Carnivore) at the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art, Rekord 08, Glefsende sovende utenfor tiden med en kake i munnen (Gulping sleeping out of time with a cake in the mouth), in collaboration with Olav Benestvedt at UKS/Black Box Theatre, Perform 07, Paris 07, Jordet Organ (Earthed Organ) at the 2007 bachelor degree exhibition at the Stenersen Museum.

The concert is part of the contemprary art exhibition "To be heard is to be seen" curated by Tone Hansen, Lars Mørch Finborud and Lasse Marhaug

Susanna

Susanna consists of Susanna K. Wallumrød (born 1979 in Norway) vocals and piano, Helge Sten, guitar, and Pål Hausken, drums. The trio began with Susanna’s solo album Sonata Mix Dwarf Cosmos in 2007, which consisted of Wallumrød’s own compositions. The album Flower of Evil was released the following year, featuring the trio’s interpretations of numbers by Prince, Lou Reed, Agnetha Fältskog and Sandy Denny. Susanna’s music is at the cutting edge between folk, ambient, minimalism and jazz, with vocals as its leitmotif. Their live concert will include a combination of cover sounds and their own compositions, focusing on Susanna’s raw and stirring voice, mixed with Sten’s sombre sound idioms and Hausken’s minimalist accompaniment on the drums.

Maja Solveig Kjelstrup Ratkje

Maja Solveig K jelstrup Ratk je (born 1973 in Norway) is a composer and performer, who both as a solo artist and with projects such as Spunk, Fe-Mail and Trinacria has challenged Norwegian and international listeners over the last 15 years. She is equally at home with written music as with improvised and noise music. Her works have been performed by ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, the orchestra of the Norwegian Broadcasting Company and the electronica band Cicada. In 2001 she was the first Norwegian to be awarded the Arne Nordheim Composer Prize and two years later, she won the Award of Distinction during the Prix Ars Electronica for her vocals record Voice. In 2008, the record River Mouth Echos, featuring written works by Ratkje, was released by John Zorn’s record company Tzadik.

Concert 6.9.2009 Sidsel Endresen + Noxagt

Sidsel Endresen

Sidsel Endresen (born 1952 in Norway) has made her own distinctive mark on the Norwegian and international music scene for nearly 30 years now – as a singer, composer, teacher and music group leader. She is regarded as one of Norway’s leading performers in vocal improvisation and specialist vocal techniques and through her unique voice and artistic integrity she has more or less created a genre all of her own. Endresen’s career has developed from fusion with Chipahua and the Jon Ebersen Group in the 1980s, to chamber jazz and, from the middle of the 90s to today, she has primarily worked with improvisation and new music. She has produced 16 records, collaborated with innumerable Norwegian and international musicians and performed as a soloist with international big bands, choirs and orchestras in the field of contemporary music. In addition, she has composed music for dance and theatre productions as well as several works commissioned by jazz festivals. At the Henie Onstad Art Centre, Sidsel Endresen will perform her solo project, which focuses on experimental vocal techniques, improvisation and highly intensive sound research.

Noxagt

The instrumental avant-rock band Noxagt was started by the bass player K jetil D. Brandsdal in Stavanger in 1999. In the beginning, Brandsdal was a one-man band, either playing solo or with various guest musicians. In 2001, Noxagt became a permanent trio, with Lars Christian Kyvik on drums and Nils Erga on the viola. The band made its international breakthrough with the album Tuning It Down Since 2001 and toured continually in Europe and the USA from then on. In 2005, Erga left the band and Anders Hana took his place on the guitar until 2008, when he, in turn, was replaced by the noise musician John Hegre. But whoever was playing, Noxagt has always had a unique sound that has won them a great many fans over the years. This concert at Høvikodden will be their first in Oslo for over a year.

Komponist og utøver Stephen O’Malley (f. 1974, USA) er mest kjent som en av hovedmennene i drone-metallbandet Sunn0))), som med sine teatrale konserter har tatt metallmusikken som Black Sabbath startet på tidlig 1970-tallet til nye høyder og ekstremer. O’Malley har jobbet med prosjekter og musikere som Merzbow, Z’ev, Peter Rehberg, John Wiese, Oren Ambarchi og norske Ulver. Han er også komponist for teaterstykkene til den franske instruktøren Gisèle Vienne. O’Malleys uttrykk karakteriseres av en sanselig opplevelse av musikken: Lave subfrekvenser som oppleves fysisk, og visuelle elementer som røyk og stemningsfullt lysdesign. Ikke overraskende er O’Malley også en kjent illustratør og grafisk designer. Han skal bo og jobbe på senteret i tre uker og 30. august urfremfører han bestillingsverket Petite Geante på Høvikodden.

Joachim Dyrdahl (f. 1979, Norge) aka diskJokke er en norsk DJ, produsent og plateartist. Han er en av de fremste eksponentene for norsk nydisco og den nye electronicabølgen sammen med navn som Lindstrøm, Rune Lindbæk og Prins Thomas. Etter å ha gitt ut fire EP’er slapp han i 2007 sitt debutalbum Staying In på Smalltown Supersound, et album som ble nominert til Spellemannsprisen. Etter utgivelsen har han raskt blitt en av Norges mest ettertraktede DJer og remiksere. I 2009 tok diskJokke steget inn i samtidsmusikken med sitt samarbeid med Det Norske Kammerorkester hvor han arrangerte strykere til sine egne låter. Hans link til samtidsmusikken er ikke tilfeldig, da diskJokke selv er en utdannet klassisk fiolinist, og i hans musikk kan man høre miksen av Giorgio Moroder, Terry Riley, Brian Eno og Arthur Russell.

Serena Maneesh er et av Norges mest respekterte band uansett sjanger og Henie Onstad Kunstsenter er stolte av å presentere deres første konsert i Oslo på to år. Serena Maneesh er et av få band det føles like naturlig å presentere i et kunstsenter som på en klubb, da deres lydbilde, tekster, opptredener og vokal bærer like mange referanser til billedkunst, performance og film, som musikk. I 2005 debuterte bandet med en selvtitulert plate med 11 forvridde, støyende og vakre sanger som fikk alt fra rock-, støy- og elektronikafantaster til å bli fans. Serena Maneesh er Emil Nicolaysens hjertebarn: ”Jeg elsker melodi, ikledd den fagreste kappe eller som uttytende innvoller. Jeg elsker rytme som hooker meg. Slik kommer det alltid å være. Kunstneren Simona Barbera (f. 1971 i Genova, Italia) jobber i Oslo og Genova. Hun studerte klassisk piano og komposisjon før hun ble opptatt ved kunstakademiet i Milano. I 2007 tok hun mastergrad ved Kunstakademiet i Oslo med et lydkunstprosjekt. For tiden studerer hun elektronisk musikk og lydinstallasjon ved instituttet for musikkteknologi ved det italienske musikkonservatoriet. Arbeidet hennes er basert på sammenstillingen av sonisk kunst og elektronisk musikk i form av installasjoner og liveopptredener, alt med vekt på lydens materialitet i forhold til rommet. Barbera bruker ulike lydkilder som piano, elektrisk orgel og vokal for å utforske den dype og massive lyden. Hun skaper lydbilde basert på lag på lag med dype basstoner og ”cross-synthesis”-behandlet vokal. Den lydlige begivenheten er strukturert i lange, dype spor med variasjoner i stadig utvikling. Barbera har vist prosjekter ved residencies, gallerier og multimedia- og elektronikafestivaler i Norge, Italia, Frankrike, Belgia, Tyskland, Danmark, Pakistan, Brasil, Irland, Bosnia, Finland og Sveits

Tori Wrånes (f. 1978) har arbeidet innen flere områder som regi, scenografi, skuespiller, performer. Wrånes har den siste tiden arbeidet hovedsaklig med visuell performance. I 2007 begynte hun på masterstudiet ved Kunstakademiet i Oslo. Wrånes skaper gjennom bruk av stemme, rom og bevegelse, presise forestillinger. Hun har også arbeidet på mindre opplagte steder som i klatrevegger, parkeringsanlegg og under vann. HØVIKODDEN LIVE 2009 will be an investigation into the power of the voice as a performative element in music and as a visual component of pictorial art. The exhibition seeks to integrate music, performance and visual arts by means of a number of events of limited duration, such as audiocinema, concerts and performance art in the exhibition room, in addition to static works of art. In so doing, it aims to shed light on the function of the concept "live" in the art institution of today.

Velkommen til utekonsert med Karin Krog & In-Between-Times og Elephant 9 på Høvikodden 24.mai

Henie Onstad Kunstsenter åpner utesesongen søndag 24.mai kl.14.00 med to gratiskonserter på utescenen. Her spiller legenden Karin Krog og hennes band In-Between-Times, samt den progressive jazz trioen Elephant 9 bestående av medlemmer fra band som Supersilent, The National Bank og Shining.

Karin Krog har i over 50 år vært en av Norges mest respekterte sangere. Siden åpningen av Henie Onstad i 1968 har hun spilt på kunstsenteret jevnlig. Som en skolert artist med fremragende tonekontroll og musikkforståelse, favner repertoaret vidt fra blues og amerikanske “standards” til elektronisk bearbeidet vokalkunst. Dette er første gang hun kommer til senteret med sin trio In-Between-Times som består av de eminente musikerne Terje Gewelt på bass, Staffan William-Olsson på gitar og henne selv på vokal.

Elephant 9 består av musikerne Ståle Storløkken på keys, Nikolai Hængsle Eilertsen på bass og Torstein Lofthus på trommer. I 30 år har diverse band forsøkt å gjenskape Miles Davis og Joe Zawifuls elektroniske lydtepper i jazzen, men få har greid det. Så kom Elephant 9 med albumet DodoVoodoo på Rune Grammofon i fjor og ventetiden var endelig over. Få har greid å videreføre og utvikle denne typen jazz enn disse tre musikerne som også er kjent for sine vanvittig intense liveshow.

Søndag 10. Mai Kl. 14.00 blir det slippfest for SPUNK sin nye CD "Kantarell" med konsert på Henie Onstad Kunstsenter.

Denne kvartetten har gjennom 14 år bevist at de til fulle mestrer den krevende improvisasjons-kunsten. Fallgrubene er mange, men Maja Ratkje, Hild Sofie Tafjord, Lene Grenager og Kristin Andersen styrer unna ved å være modige, nysgjerrige, lekende, utfordrene og med evne til overraske. Deres femte album er alt dette og mere til, fra det abstrakte til det poetiske.

Denne søndagen er det også første helgen senteret viser sin nye Jan Groth utstilling "Traces and Spaces" i Prismasalene hvor verker av Groth og bla Eva Hesse, Isamu Noguchi og Louise Bourgeois vises.

Konserten er gratis ved kjøp av museumsbillett og starter kl. 14.00

“Draw a straight line and follow it” – La Monte Young

Dronemusikk består av lange toner og repeterende lyder. Lydbildet utvikler seg over lang tid og lytteren kan velge å lytte aktivt eller passivt til musikken. Ambient og minimalisme er ofte omtalt som beslektede uttrykk. På 60-tallet startet artister som La Monte Young, Tony Conrad, Terry Riley og John Cale å spille konserter i New York som varte hele natten. Publikum tok med soveposer og slappet av mens musikken kontinuerlig ble spilt. Søndag 3. mai mellom kl.11.00 og 17.00 på Henie Onstad kunstsenter skal åtte norske musikere fra ganske forskjellige bakgrunner (alt fra jazz, samtidsmusikk, elektronika, black metal og rock) spille Norges, om ikke første, så ihvertfall lengste dronekonsert. Puter og sofaer blir tilgjengelig, og det er slettes ikke nødvendig å være her alle seks timene for å få en fin konsertopplevelse.

Henie Onstad Book & CD releases

In the departement of shameless self promotion we present some publications from the centre released the last years.

Top picture is the great book "Høvikodden Live 1968-2007" which was published last year and deals with the cross-artistic scene at the centre from its start in 1968. Second picture is the catalogue for the NOTAM produced exhibition Absorspsjon & Resonans which was at the centre from 20.11.2008 to 25.01.2009 which was designed by the group yokoland. It includes texts written by everyone from Jøran Rudi, Lars Petter Hagen, Aaron Bergman, Camille Norment and Lars Mørch Finborud.

The CDs is Lasse Marhaugs "Ear Era" produced for the centre last year, and Arkivalia vol. 1 which contains music from the Henie Onstad Music Archives, produced by Magne Furuholmen in 1996 (!!). Last but not least is the great book edited by curator Tone Hansen about Norwegian artist Håkon Blekens textproduction.

7. – 22. februar er det familiefestival på Høvikodden. Her blir det
konserter, workshops, kortfilmer, utstillinger, kokkekurs og
aktiviteter inne og ute for hele familien.

Metronomicon Audios store helter Centre Of The Universe og Truls
holder konserter for deres favorittpublikum: nemlig barn! Centre of

NSEM (Norwegian Studio for Electronic Music)

Found some pictures and commercials in the archives of the recording studio that was located at the centre in the 70s and 80s. The studio was made both for recording the concerts held at Høvikodden but also as a professional recording studio to hire, specialized in Electronic Music. The studio was the first Norwegian Studio for Electronic Music (NSEM) which amongst other things had its own Buchla Music Box synthesizer. A large amount of important recordings were made here from Henry Cow records to Svein Finnerud Trio.

From the opening in 1968 the art centre had its own library in the lower level of the building. One part of the library consisted of an LP section with a very ecclectic collection of early electronic music, chinese opera, jazz, avant-garde, rock, field recordings, folkways recordings, fluxus LPs etc which could be listened to by the public.

Through 2009 we will make some mixes from the LP collection to give a glimpse of one of the finest collections of rare 1st editions LP`s in Scandinavia:

Press here to download Lasse Marhaug`s commisioned work for centre`s 40th Anniversary, entitled "Ear Era". The piece was performed in 3 different versions at the centre in 2008 and released in a CD version on Prisma Records in August 2008.

In 2008, the Henie Onstad Art Centre invited musician and composer Lasse Marhaug to explore it`s audio archive. From the opening in 1968, Henie Onstad was intended as a cross artistic arena, and soon became the place in Norway for experimental art in all genres. The archive contains over 800 tapes of recordings done in the centre`s concert hall and in the Norwegian Studio for Electronic Music, which was located at the centre between 75`-78`. The music ranges from recordings by Stockhausen, Jan Garbarek, Laurie Anderson, Mauricio Kagel, Webster Lewis, Terry Riley, Svein Finnerud Trio, Heinz Holliger, Bjørn Fongaard, Steve Reich, Karin Krog, Soft Machine, Julie Dricoll, Jokke and Arne Nordheim.
